Section 1.3.7.2.12. Summary and Comments
The requirement to qualify the structure generally requires a
complex set of analyses, and in the early design stage may be impractical. The design could be made to satisfy Slow
Crack Growth Structure guidelines, either non-inspectable or depot level
inspectable, while still maintaining some level of fail safety, but not
necessarily meeting the guidelines specifically. This approach would generally be satisfactory and usually
requires a lesser amount of analysis, particularly for computing residual
strength and the growth increment.
