AFGROW European Training and Workshop 2016 proceedings and notes

Sponsored by ZHAW, the School of Engineering, Centre for Aviation, Winterthur, Switzerland

This was the second AFGROW European Workshop with 18 attendees representing Industry and Academia. We would like to express our gratitude to Prof. Michel Guillaume for hosting the Workshop. The agenda for the Workshop is shown below:

8:00Welcome and Introductions
8:10AFGROW Release 5.3 New Features and Capabilities
9:15Bearing Loading Issues for Wide Plates
9:45Using the New Tabular Crack Growth Rate Database
10:15Pilatus P3 Horizontal Tail Lug Fitting Analysis
11:00Questions/Discussion
12:00Lunch
1:00 - 3:00Round Table Discussion with Attendees

The Workshop provided an excellent opportunity for feedback from our European customers. The following topics and areas of interest were discussed.
  • Stress intensity solution for a through-the-thickness crack at a hole under biaxial loading
  • Stiffened panel solution
  • Option to output in terms of hours
  • Option to display maximum and minimum spectrum stress vs. cycles in 3-D (or 2-D with min/max bins showing the number of cycles)
  • ASTM standard cycle counting routine
  • Ability to convert existing spectra to the new AFGROW XML spectrum format

We will be considering these areas of interest for incorporation in future AFGROW releases. We will also provide feedback on our progress in each of these areas.
